How to Communicate With Your Kids More Effectively
Communicating with your kids isn’t always easy. Most of what you say seems to go in one ear and out the other. Have you had a chance to read our last blog yet? If you have, then you already know about a few things you can do to communicate with your kids more effectively. Keep reading to learn more tips from our preschool in Fremont, CA:
#4. Keep your explanations simple.
Kids are easily distracted, and if you are too long-winded when you try to explain things, you are likely to lose them. When you talk with your child, avoid over-explaining. Use the simplest terms and the shortest explanations to get your point across.
#5. Spend quality time with your child, and let conversations happen naturally.
Don’t try to force communications with your child, this will only make the whole thing more difficult. Spend some time with them doing things they like, such as going to the zoo, getting ice cream, playing outside and baking. The more time you spend with your child, the easier and more natural your conversations will become.
#6. Don’t yell, instead stay positive and use a firm tone of voice.
Yelling often does more harm than good because it causes kids to shut down, rather than open up. If your child comes to you with a problem or they confess something to you, keep things positive and speak to them firmly. This doesn’t mean that you can’t discipline your kids, you should just do so in a way that encourages them to come to you again in the future.
