Tips for Baking with Your Kids this Holiday Season

Baking is a great activity to involve the entire family in this holiday season. Baking is so much fun and it brings families together like nothing else. It is also beneficial for your kids because it teaches them about reading, math, following directions, and baking in itself is a skill that can be beneficial to them throughout their entire life! The problem is that baking with your kids can get pretty frustrating, but luckily our Fremont daycare center has come up with this list of tips for baking with your kids this holiday season to keep you sane and make your experience a success:

  • Choose simple recipes- Don’t try anything too complicated, at least at first. Let your child get acquainted with the ingredients, the appliances, and the tools that you use to bake with the easiest recipes that you can find.
  • Give yourself plenty of time- Though you may be a baking master, your child is just learning, and it may take a long time for them to get the hang of things. That is why you should plan your baking activity for a day when you have plenty of time and you aren’t rushing anything.
  • Make it a learning opportunity- Baking can teach kids many things, but you have to be willing to go slowly and explain the process along the way.
  • Get ready to clean- Baking can be messy as it is, but when kids are involved things can get even messier. You can make your cleanup a little easier by placing a plastic tablecloth on the floor underneath the work area.
