Summer Safety Tips for Your Kids

Summer is almost here at last! Soon, we will all be playing outside, inhaling that sweet smell of barbecue and enjoying the sunshine. However, with all of the good that comes from summer, it brings its own risks and dangers. At Palm Academy, we are dedicated to helping your children enjoy a fun, safe summer. That is why our Fremont daycare center has come up with the following list of summer safety tips for your kids:

#1. Be sun-smart.

Although the sunshine is a great part of summer, burns are painful, and your child’s sensitive skin needs to protected out in the sunshine. Ensure that you always put sunscreen on your child before heading outdoors. It’s important to note that sunburns can occur in as little as 15 minutes, so you should get into the habit of putting sunscreen on your child no matter how long you plan to be outdoors. Also, sunburns don’t just happen on sunny days, they can happen when it’s cloudy out as well!

#2. Keep the mosquitoes at bay.

No one wants to have to deal with an itchy mosquito bite, but mosquito bites are more than just annoying, they can be deadly. Mosquitoes are known to transmit disease, most notably in the United States, West Nile virus. Ensure that your child wears bug repellant when they go outdoors, and if you are concerned about DEET, look into more natural options. It is also wise to limit your time outdoors during the mornings and evenings, as these are the most active times for mosquitoes.
