Tips to Help You Keep Your Toddler in Bed

Have you recently transitioned your toddler into a bed? After a couple of years of training your baby to sleep through the night in the crib, you now have to try to get them to sleep through the night in a whole new environment. During this transition, your child might continuously get up out of bed, but luckily, there are several strategies you can employ to get your toddler to stay in bed. The following is a list of tips from our preschool in Fremont, CA for keeping your toddler in bed:

#1. Stick to the existing bedtime routine.

Transitioning your child from a crib to a bed can lead to major disruptions in their bedtime routine, but you should attempt to keep the routine as consistent as possible. Give your child some quiet time in bed before they are expected to go to sleep by reading them a book or singing them a lullaby.

#2. Make your toddler think you are boring.

Children often think that their parents are having a blast without them while they are lying in bed. When it gets close to bedtime, make yourself as boring as possible to your toddler. Turn off all of the electronics, put all of your child’s toys away and sit down to a book. If your child wanders out of bed, they will see that you aren’t doing anything exciting, and they will be more willing to go back to bed.

#3. Create a rewards system.

Kids absolutely love stickers, so if you are looking for a great way to ensure your child will stay in bed, stickers are a good place to start. Make a chart, and let your child add a sticker for every night they stay in bed.
